Assets4Change Partnership:
As part of a recent large building move and clearance in Reading, we donated 37 chairs to the Amber Foundation at their Dorking site.
“Many thanks to Assets4Change for your donation of furniture. The 37 chairs will be make a really big difference to the young people we support who have faced homelessness. It will enable all the young people and staff to sit and eat together for mealtimes – thank you.”
Young people who have experienced childhood trauma, or escaped domestic violence, too often become homeless. Sleeping on sofas or in hostels, they struggle to find work with devastating effect on their self-confidence and mental health. It’s a vicious spiral that’s hard to break. That’s where Amber comes in. They provide a temporary home and a programme of support that helps young people transform their lives for good. 88% move on from Amber into independent housing, with a job or back into education.
“At Farm Place, Amber’s centre in Surrey, we currently have 32 young people who have faced homelessness. They each take it in turns to cook lunch for around 40 people, clean and maintain communal areas, gain qualifications and experience for future employment, volunteer locally and take part in workshops such as budgetary management, healthy relationships, self-confidence and tenancy agreements. A young person typically stays with us for 6-9 months and then move forward into independent housing and either into work, education or left having achieved a major goal such as a Level 2 qualification. With your valuable support of recent furniture donations, which comprised red wooden chairs which we have placed in the newly refurbished art room and wooden dining chairs, placed in the dining room”
“We were in desperate need for these chairs, sadly the old dining chairs we had were no longer fit for purpose and you came to our rescue!” – Louise
